Words of Inspiration & Motivation

Image

~Quotes and exert of individuals who have highly influenced the Childhood field~

  Words of Inspiration & Motivation

President Lyndon B. Johnson & Dr. Aisha Ray.

President Johnson was the 36th President (1963-69), he created the “War on Poverty” which started the Head Start program among other programs for low-income families in 1964.

An excerpt from the “Remarks of Project Head Start”  President Johnson In 1965, I found inspiring (Http://www.presidency.usb.edu/ws/?pid=26973)

“This program, like so many others, will succeed in proportion as it is supported by voluntary assistance and understanding from all out people. So we are going to need a million good neighbors- volunteers-who will give their time for a few hours each week caring for these children, helping in a hundred ways to draw out their potentials.  We need housewives, coeds, we need teachers and doctors.  We need men and women of all walks and all interests to lend their talents, their warmth, their hands, and their hearts. The bread that is cast upon these waters will surely return many thousandfold. What a sense of achievement, and what great pride, and how happy that will make all of us who love America feel about this understanding”

“Education is not a problem, Education is an opportunity” ~ President Lyndon B. Johnson

“This means that nearly half the preschool children of poverty will get a head start  on their future. These children will received preschool training to prepare tem for regular school in September. They will get medical and dental attention tat they badly need, and parents will receive counseling on improving their the home environment” ~ President B. Johnson

Dr. Aisha Ray a Childhood expert I also found to be inspiring.   Dr. Aisha Ray is known for her work in the Early Childhood profession for preparation and training, culture and development, development in urban communities, fathers and families, and the development for low-income families.

Dr. Ray’s quotes that have inspired me.

” Families may view education as a vehicle for the future success of their children and hence may seek out early education program to help them gain a head start” ~ Dr. Aisha Ray

“If we are looking for the greater bang for our buck, early childhood is the ticket”  Dr. Aisha Ray

“Opportunity, equality, and individuals effort are the mantras of American educational mythology” ~ Dr. Aisha Ray

Other quotes I found inspirational

“I feel very lucky because of my parents and then my education, the opportunities that I’ve had, so I would like to continue working to improve lives for others” ~ Hilary Clinton

“Experts generally agree that taking all opportunities to read books and other material aloud to children is the best preparation for their learning to read. The pleasures of being read to are far more likely to strengthen a child’s desire to learn to read than are repetitions of sounds, alphabet drills, and deciphering uninteresting words” ~ Dr. Lilian Katz

My Childhood Web ~ Gone but Not Forgotten!

I dedicated my Childhood Web to my mother, grandmother, step-grandfather & my Aunt.

My family wasn’t a very close family but we were close.  My mom’s name was Angie and she was a very good mom and she loved all 8 of us. I was the eldest child.  My mom instilled good values, love and much support to all of us, she let us know of the importance of education and ensured that we finish and to go off to college.  My mom did the best she could but no longer was able to care for my sisters and brothers due to her illness.  We were sent to live with my grandparents under kinship foster care.  My mom would visit us as often as she could.

My grandparents filled us so much values, care and love. They taught us to grow up to be productive young women and men.  It was always taught to us Education is the key to open many doors to being a very successful person in life whether in career and or in general.  Education is the one thing we earn and no one can take that from us.  I can always hear my grandmother telling us.  My grandparents supported us in anything we chosen to do.  They impacted my life in an unimaginable way, they were a great support to me and were the best grandparents anyone can ask for.

My Aunt Monique is 4 years my senior and she’s like a sister to me. We grew very close to one another and always felt like she was more than an Aunt but a sister.  We went the same elementary and JHS together and further in life we ended in the same college at the same time. Our sons are very close in age and grew up together as brothers.    Monique has always been supportive in anything I chose to do and always told me to put my best foot forward.

She’s introduced me to Christ and has been my Aunt and sister in Christ to this very day.  She’s always been a supportive and great person to me

Within a couple of years we were reunited with my mom but sadly she passed away in May of 1999, she did get a chance to see one of her grandchildren my son Tyrone.  My mom since received 12 more grandchildren.  Which I know she can see on spirit, she is tremendously missed.
I adopted 6 of my siblings in my moms passing all of which are all grown now with their own families and careers with exception of one my baby sister Jasmine-she’s graduating High School this year. My brothers and sisters have grown to be very productive young men and women and have made me proud. We have all learned from one another and strive to stay close.

It is very important I pass down the same love and support to my children, ensuring them they can do anything.  As my grandmother has always told us, Proverbs 22:6 (King James Version) “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.  No matter what comes and or goes, the love and support along with the correction I instill in my children will always be there even when they are old it will not depart from them and lead them to the right paths.

“If you stand for something, you won’t fall for anything” ~ Anonymous

This is one of my favorite quote.

We must always believe in something, this is our very foundation to who we are.  Once you believe and stand for something nothing can detour you.

The Cat In the Hat

The Cat in the Hat

My favorite childhood book of all times filled with fun, adventure, learning and rhyming. The Cat in the Hat was a very crazy cat and I learned a lot from all the series of Dr. Seuss’ books.  This book was so inspirational to me at the time of growing up. I loved to read and rhyme and I thought the Cat in the Hat was so funny and how he thing 1 and thing 2 on a rainy day made the little kids day full or fun and a little bit of craziness.

My Favorite book as a child. “The Cat In the Hat”

“Rainbow Hands”

photo 2 (1)

This artwork was done by Jaylen(8), a little boy I watched after hours of school.   We were having art time when he decided to paint his “Rainbow Hands”.

Jaylen said the painting was his Rainbow Hands, his hands of Healing.   He expressed he learned about healing hands in Church at Sunday school.  I thought this to be very sweet and honest for a child to draw about healing.

One of my favorite artworks.
